The Library Services guide 'Presenting your thesis' has been written as the standard for all theses presented for research degrees in the University of Birmingham. It offers guidance on the practicalities of producing your thesis in a format that is acceptable for examination and for deposit in the library.What is a Dissertation?1 Introduction. A dissertation or final year project, as a form of assessment differs from other module assessments. The expectation is that you, the learner, take responsibility for your own learning and that you produce a literature review, you choose a method for undertaking a study, write up your findings and discuss the outcomes in a discussion section.The dissertation template doc then has some notes on presentation, spelling, grammar and writing style. Thesis Format. The rules for formatting research degree theses are quite straightforward, but it is important that you get them right: with the exception of short quotations for which an English translation is provided, the thesis must be written in English unless the Graduate Dean has given approval prior to submission for examination for all or part of the thesis to be in another language.
